A message from the President

Hi Members and Committee

My first message to you all as President and I am really excited to be given this opportunity.

While 2020 presented challenges for many local businesses, I believe that we now have an exciting opportunity to strongly present a new face of Wonthaggi to the community and external markets that will generate significant economic and social benefits.

The spot light is on our town as the Regional Centre and Hub of the area and the right growth is paramount. With this platform comes the opportunity to have our say and voice WHAT WE WANT. I will be taking a leadership role and am here to be your voice in any way I can.

A few key things that are in the works;

1. The Wonthaggi Unlocked Campaign – The WBTA is working collectively with Council in partnership to raise the profile of Wonthaggi and surrounds and relaunch our town with its own unique brand to market. A launch date of this TBC.

2. Shop Local and Love where you live campaigns.

3. You will notice new flags presenting the town shortly that have been funded and arranged by Council.

4. The Council have finalised the towns Christmas Decorations which consist of flags and stand out roundabout centrepieces of baubles. I am still in talks regarding the lights to dress up McBride Avenue. They will not be in place this year however I am told they are in the works for next year and are to hopefully remain all year round once installed.

5. Council are funding a street art mural for Wonthaggi, and Connells Bakery has been the chosen location. A selection committee has been formed and three artists have been selected with the committee in final stages of locking in the artwork.

By working collaboratively with our members, Council and the community, I am confident that we will be successful in boosting civic pride in Wonthaggi, and build a stronger foundation for the continued growth of Wonthaggi’ s identity and attraction to external visitor and investor markets.
