Wonthaggi Activity Centre Plan

The Wonthaggi Business and Tourism Association is striving to work collaboratively with traders, Council, and the community to develop and support a progressive Wonthaggi.

Today, the Bass Coast Shire Council approved the Wonthaggi Activity Centre Plan. As a business owner in Wonthaggi and President of the Wonthaggi Business and Tourism Association I believe that the adopted plan has great potential and is an important step in the right direction for the town.

The plan provides much needed facilities to our area, together with improved streetscape and safe pedestrian access to the Wonthaggi CBD. With the forecasted growth predicted for our region, we need to ensure that we cater for this population whilst stimulating our local economy.

As with any proposed development that affects our business and community, there will be objections and we need to ensure we protect the interest of those affected.

Our traders have expressed their concerns and are opposed to the reduction in parking on McBride Avenue.

After consultation with Bass Coast Shire Council, The Wonthaggi Activity Centre Plan was approved with an amendment that the development of McBride Avenue will not occur without consultation with the Wonthaggi Business and Tourism Association to ensure that alternative parking options are explored to offset the loss of parking to this area.

It is sometimes easy to focus on the short-term implications, rather than a broader perspective of the greater good that a long-term plan is intending to achieve.

The Wonthaggi Business and Tourism Association will continue consultation with Council regarding the development of McBride Avenue and I encourage you to contact me directly to share your thoughts.
